We welcome everyone to participate in our Orthodox Christian Book Club!

Come and join us as we read and discuss Orthodox Christian books, learn from the teachings of the Holy Fathers, and grow together in our knowledge and understanding of the Orthodox Faith.

Our Selected Book

With God’s blessing, we will begin our Orthodox Christian Book Club by reading the first volume of the works of St. Ignatius Brianchaninov, The Field.

Through the writings of St. Ignatius, we hope to deepen our understanding of the Orthodox spiritual life and learn how to apply the teachings of the Holy Fathers to our daily Christian lives.

Saint Ignatius Brianchaninov

St. Ignatius Brianchaninov (1807–1867) was a nineteenth-century Russian Orthodox bishop, theologian, and spiritual writer. Born into a noble Russian family, he received an excellent education and initially pursued a military career before leaving worldly life to devote himself to God.

St. Ignatius entered the monastic life and became deeply devoted to the teachings of the Holy Fathers, prayer, repentance, and the struggle against the passions. Vladuka Ignatius later served the Church as Bishop of the Caucasus and the Black Sea.

St. Ignatius is especially known for his writings on the spiritual life, in which the saint presents the teachings of the ancient Holy Fathers for Christians living in more modern times. Vladuks's works emphasize humility, repentance, attentive prayer, spiritual discernment, and faithfulness to the teachings of the Orthodox Church.

St. Ignatius reposed in the Lord in 1867 and was glorified as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1988.
