The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is the central Eucharistic worship of the Orthodox Christian Church and a profound expression of her faith and theology. Through its sacred prayers, hymns, petitions, and readings from Holy Scripture, the Church proclaims the mystery of the Holy Trinity, the Incarnation of the Son of God, His saving Passion, Cross, Resurrection, Ascension, and glorious Second Coming.

At the heart of the Divine Liturgy is the Holy Eucharist, in which the Church offers the gifts of bread and wine to God in thanksgiving and invokes the Holy Spirit upon them, that they may become the precious Body and Blood of our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ. In receiving the Holy Mysteries, the faithful are united with Christ and with one another, participating sacramentally in the life of His Body, the Church.

The Divine Liturgy therefore reveals the Church as a living communion between God and His people, heaven and earth, the clergy and the faithful, gathered together in Christ for the sanctification and salvation of the world and the glorification of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
